Using percent to find the height

3/20/2019

A 24-inch-tall picture frame is 20% as tall as the ceiling is high.  How high is the ceiling?
A.)  4.8 feet
B.)  10 feet
C.)  12 feet
D.)  120 feet

Notice the answer choices are all in feet.  Therefore, change the 24 inches to feet.

24 inches = 2 feet   {12 inches in 1 foot}

x = height of ceiling

0.2x = 2   {2 feet is 20% of the ceiling}
x = 10 feet   {divided each side by 0.2}

B.)  10 feet
