Using a proportion

Geri  ran in a marathon race. It took her 3 hours and 28 minute to run 26 miles.  How many minutes did it take her to run 1 mile if she ran at the same rate for the whole race?

3 hours and 28 minutes
= 208 minutes {changed time to all minutes}

Set up a proportion:
   26 miles               1 mile
----------------    =    -------------   {set up a proportion}
208 minutes          x minutes

26x = 208 {cross-multiplied}
x = 8 minutes {divided each side by 26}

1 mile would take her 8 minutes if the rate was the same.
