0 Comments

An ice cream sundae costs $1.75 plus an additional $0.35 for each topping.  If the total cost is $2.80, how many toppings did the sundae have?

t = number of toppings the sundae has

1.75 + 0.35t = 2.8   {sundae, plus 0.35 times toppings, equals total cost}
-1.75             -1.75
0.35t = 1.05   {subtracted 1.75 from each side}
t = 3   {divided each side by 0.35}

the sundae has 3 toppings
