How many ounces were in the ball?

The ball used in a soccer game may not weigh more than 16 ounces or less than 14 ounces at the start of the match. After 1.5 ounces of air were added to a ball, the ball was approved for use in a game.  How many ounces were in the ball before air was added?

14 ≤ x + 1.5 ≤ 16  {the starting air in the ball, plus the 1.5 ounces added, must be between 14 and 16}
12.5 ≤ x ≤ 14.5  {subtracted 1.5 from the left, middle, and right}

The amount of air in the ball, to begin with, could have been anywhere from 12.5 ounces to 14.5 ounces, since the problem does not say air needed to be added to become approved.
