Finding the percent

I want to find out how much of $1913.04 is tax when the tax rate is 11.875%/

What is the equation that will give me that dollar amount?

One easy formula for percentages is a = pb,
where a is the “part”, p is the “percent” (as a decimal), and b is the “whole”.

If you are finding 11.875% of $1913.04, it goes like this
a = pb
a = 0.11875(1913.04) {changed 11.875% to a decimal and substituted in for p, and substituted 1913.04 for b}
a = $227.1735  {multiplied}

The tax would be  $227.17.
