An angle measures 85.6° more than the measure of its complementary angle. What is the measure of each angle?

Complementary angles add up to 90º.

x = measure of complementary angle
x + 85.6 = measure of the angle {an angle measures 85.6º more than its complementary angle}

x + x + 85.6 = 90 {complementary angles add up to 90º}
2x + 85.6 = 90 {combined like terms}
2x = 4.4 {subtracted 85.6 from each side}
x = 2.2 {divided each side by 2}
x + 85.6 = 87.8 {substituted 2.2, in for x, into x + 85.6}

87.8º is the measure of the angle
2.2º is the measure of its complementary angle
