The admission fee at an amusement park is $1.50 and $4 only for adults. On a certain day 314 people entered the park, the admission fee collected $796.00. How many children and how many adults were admitted?

x = number of children entering
314 - x = number of adults entering
{there were 314 total people entering}

1.5x + 4(314 - x) = 796 {price per ticket times number of tickets equals total admission}
1.5x + 1256 - 4x = 796 {used distributive property}
-2.5x + 1256 = 796 {combined like terms}
-2.5x = -460 {subtracted 1256 from each side}
x = 184 {divided each side by -2.5}
314 - x = 130 {substituted 184, in for x, into 314 - x}

184 children and 130 adults were admitted
