Similar Triangles

12/10/2017

Triangle XYZ is shown.
Picture
Which triangle must be similar to triangle XYZ ?
A.)  a triangle with two angles that measure 40°
B.)  a triangle with angles that measure 40° and 60°
C.)  a scalene triangle with only one angle that measures 100°
D.)  an isosceles triangle with only one angle that measures 40°

Two triangles are similar if their corresponding angles are congruent and the corresponding sides are
in proportion.

If a triangle was to be similar to triangle XYZ, it would surely have equal angles.  If two angles on the new triangle
measured 40°, each, then the third angle would have to be 100°, since angles of a triangle add up to 180°.

Therefore, the correct answer would be:
A.)  a triangle with two angles that measure 40°
