Write the equation of a line that is parallel to y = (-8/21)x - 1 and goes through (0,5).

**Two things to note here:**

- parallel lines have equal slopes

- at the y-intercept, the value of x is zero

- parallel lines have equal slopes

- at the y-intercept, the value of x is zero

Parallel to y = (-8/21)x - 1 would have the same slope.

**slope = -8/21**

The point (0,5) is the y-intercept, because at the y-intercept, x is zero.

**y-intercept is 5**

y = mx + b {slope-intercept form}

**y = (-8/21)x + 5**is the equation of the line. {substituted into slope-intercept form}
