What are three consecutive integers whose sum is -3?

x = first consecutive integer
x + 1 = second consecutive integer
x + 2 = third consecutive integer

x + x + 1 + x + 2 = -3 {the sum of three consecutive integers is -3}
3x + 3 = -3 {combined like terms}
3x = -6 {subtracted 3 from each side}
x = -2 {divided each side by 3}
x + 1 = -1 {substituted -2, in for x, into x + 1}
x + 2 = 0 {substituted -2, in for x, into x + 2}

-2, -1, and 0 are the three consecutive integers
