The sum of two consecutive integers is -49. Find the integers.

x = first consecutive integer
x + 1 = second consecutive integer

x + x + 1 = -49   {sum of two consecutive integers is -49}
2x + 1 = -49   {combined like terms}
2x = -50   {subtracted 1 from each side}
x = -25   {divided each side by 2}
x + 1 = -24   {substituted -25, in for x, into x + 1}

-25 and -24 are the two consecutive integers
