Solve using the Pythagorean Theorem

The length of the legs of a right triangle are given.
Find the hypotenuse. a = 24, b = 45 and c = ?

a² + b² = c² {a and b are the legs and c is the hypotenuse}
24² + 45² = c² {substituted into Pythagorean Theorem}
576 + 2,025 = c² {squared 24 and 45}
2,601 = c² {added on left side}
c = 51 {took square root of both sides}

hypotenuse = 51
